It’s been almost two months since I posted here on BCP. Time warp! I’ve been busy getting my consulting business going, and it’s been a big learning curve. Way big. People always say being self-employed isn’t for everyone, and now I understand why! I do love working for myself, but it takes a different skill set around organization, discipline, and prioritizing time. Maybe I’ll get really good at it some day…
While Backcountry Paleo has been in stasis (not any more!), I’ve been guest-blogging over at Autoimmune Paleo. In February, I wrote an article about hidden gluten, grains and nightshades in medications and supplements. For many people on the AIP or other modified diets, getting the diet clear of gluten and other substances is key for healing. What a lot of folks don’t realize is that medications, supplements, and body care products can contain these substances, frequently under names that don’t reveal their true source. I’ve been in touch with a lot of people who live with chronic illness, via various support groups online and locally – and I continually hear stories from people who don’t experience full healing from a symptom until they discover that one of their meds or supplements contained gluten, corn, or some other reactive substance, hidden under an alternate name on the ingredients panel.
I’m not trying to alarm you, but if you have any food sensitivities or are on a modified diet, and take meds or supplements, it’s worth looking into what’s potentially hidden in them. In my article over on Autoimmune Paleo blog, I detail some of the things to look out for, as well as ways to assure your items stay ingredient-safe moving forward. Here’s to clean food and healthy living!
